NGO’s support: Nas Alturas supports NGO’s such as GAP (Palmeiras environmental group) , BRAL (Lençóis volunteer Fire team) responsible for the volunteer help on forest fire situations, and the GAL ( Lençóis Environmental group) that runs a project with the local kids to develop environmental responsibility and garbage recycling in Lençóis.
Lunch bags: At Nas Alturas tours, your personal lunch comes in recycled paper bags, specially made. At the end of every tour, the paper bags are collected and send to a local recycling area, where everything is turned in to portraits, recycled paper, pencil cases and many other products, providing work to local people and avoiding using plastic bags, that most of the time goes straight to the trash. All of this, of course, besides a delicious and well-ballanced lunch for your day.
“NO PLASTIC CUPS” – We have started a project with our staff and clients using our ecological cup. The idea is to avoid using the plastic cups at all times (specially during the tours) that quickly turns in to a garbage, difficult and expense to be recycled. We made our own customized cup, and it’s a great idea to do with your friends, at home and at work – have you counted how many plastic cups would you be saving a year?
Supporting local communities and providing work to local natives – Your visit to Chapada Diamantina with us provides work to local people and supports many families in the area. Every day, along with our staff, local guides, porters, cookers, homestay native families (during the treks) work together to guarantee the quality of your tour. These kind people help us all year on protecting the local nature. The imcome from the work with tourism is enough so they don’t need to work with caddle or large agriculture areas, keeping the native vegetation intact.
